Deputy not charged, awarded medal for shooting man charging at him with a knife

WASHTENAW COUNTY, MI – A sheriff’s deputy has been cleared of wrongdoing and awarded a medal for shooting a man during a stabbing outside of Ann Arbor.

The Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office formally declined charges against Deputy Gregory Roberts in March 2025, ruling he had acted in self-defense and defense of others when he shot a man during an altercation in 2024.
