Popular Ann Arbor bakery shuts down

ANN ARBOR, MI – Molly’s Cupcakes, a specialty cupcake shop in downtown Ann Arbor, shut down in April.

The popular store closed on April 18, according to the bakery’s Instagram. All signage at the bakery was removed and white curtains covered the windows looking into the store. Molly’s Cupcakes ownership did not respond to multiple requests for comment.

The bakery opened on 617 East Liberty Street in July 2024. Founded in Chicago, the chain has opened 15 storefronts across five different states, including the first in Michigan. The bakery has been nationally recognized for both specialty flavors and classics like a Red Velvet cupcake that was voted best in Chicago. The chain was also voted Best Cupcake in New York City by the Village Voice and even finished at the top spot on the Food Network series “Cupcake Wars.”…
