Gun stores across Fairfax County are reporting increased sales as Virginians rush to purchase firearms and magazines before a new state law restricting future sales of certain semi-automatic firearms and magazines takes effect July 1.
The new law, enacted through House Bill 217 and Senate Bill 749, was signed by Gov. Abigail Spanberger in April as part of a package of more than 20 firearm-related bills approved during the 2026 General Assembly session.
Beginning July 1, the law will prohibit the future import, sale, purchase, transfer and manufacturing of certain semi-automatic firearms and magazines capable of holding more than 15 rounds. Firearms and magazines legally owned before July 1 are not affected…
