Another weekend, another round of cool wet weather

Tonight, plenty of clouds will be around, keeping the thermometer cool but steady with lows in the 50s. Sunday, rain chances return for most of the DMV, beginning in the early morning hours and continuing into the afternoon. With a northeast wind kicking in and steady to moderate rain at times, temperatures will stay in the 60s, some 10-15 degrees cooler than normal for early October. All rain should come to an end just before sundown, as the thermometer drops another 10 degrees, holding in the 50s in D.C., somewhat cooler in outlying cities and towns.

Monday, with the showers out of the way and high pressure building into the area, will help to increase sunshine, but also increase a northwesterly wind. So expect the start of a new work week to be on the breezy side of things, as afternoon gusts climb into the 20 to 25mph range. Monday’s highs, with a cool NW wind, will return to the 60s in and around the Beltway, lower 70s in parts of Northern Virginia, and 50s in Western Maryland.

Throughout the entire week, the weather is forecast to be dry with varying amounts of clouds on a day-to-day basis, as a strong area of high pressure builds over the Mid-Atlantic region. So the week will start out a bit chilly, both in the morning and afternoon, before a gradual warm-up takes shape as high pressure moves out into the Atlantic. By Wednesday afternoon, highs could reach 70 degrees in D.C., with mid-70s by Thursday and Friday.

7-Day Forecast:

Tonight: Mostly cloudy with a chance of showers, mainly after midnight. Low around 60. Light northeast wind.

Sunday: Cloudy with showers likely, mainly before mid-afternoon. High near 65. Northeast wind 3 to 6 mph…
