Fairfax Circuit Court Chief Judge Penney Azcarate to retire this July

Fairfax County Circuit Court Chief Judge Penney Azcarate has dedicated her career to service and justice. After many years of service to the county of Fairfax, she will retire this July.

“It’s been an honor to be on the bench for 18 years,” Azcarate reflected.

Azcarate’s journey was not necessarily a traditional one. After gaining her undergraduate degree at Old Dominion University on an ROTC scholarship, she served for four years in the U.S. Marine Corps. Upon returning home, she spent several years raising her children. Ultimately, she decided to pursue her dream of attending law school and enrolled in the part-time program at George Mason University’s Antonin Scalia Law School…
