‘Hit Zero’ dies after finishing opening race at Laurel Park in Maryland

LAUREL, Md. (7News) — A 3-year-old racehorse suddenly died moments after making its debut in an opening race at Laurel Park on Friday.

The Maryland Racing Commission (MRC) confirmed ‘Hit Zero’ had a cardiac event and died on May 15, following Race 1 at the track as Preakness weekend festivities kicked off.

The colt was owned by ItsTheJHo, LLC, and Evan Trommer, and trained by Brittany Russell, with her husband Sheldon riding. Russell also trains Taj Mahal, one of the top horses in the Preakness…
