Diana Wortham, namesake of Asheville theater, dies at 82

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) — Diana Gayle Wortham, a beloved philanthropist in Asheville, has died. She was 82.

The Wortham Center for the Performing Arts in downtown Asheville is named after Wortham, who was known for her contributions to the cultural life of the region.

“A dedicated philanthropist, Diana quietly supported numerous organizations and causes throughout her lifetime,” an obituary for Wortham on Morris Funeral and Cremation Care’s website said, in part. “She held a particular passion for children, animals and the arts, directing her resources and attention toward making a meaningful difference in each of these areas.”…
