Out run the heat, feed the need: Independence Day 5K funds meals in western NC counties

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) — Before the day got too terribly hot, runners turned out to Pack Square Park for the Independence Day 5K.

It was the third year in a row for the family event that benefits food connection.

News 13 spoke with race director Leslie Grotenhuis about how it’s a great time to have people from across the country here to celebrate not just July 4th, but our slice of America here in western North Carolina.
