High Peaks Leads Challenging Crest Trail Hike July 25

Exceptionally-fit and very experienced hikers are invited to join the NC High Peaks Trail Association on Saturday, July 25 for a very challenging hike on the Black Mountain Crest Trail. The 11.2 mile jaunt will offer spectacular views from Yancey County’s signature mountain chain.

Meet at the Bolen’s Creek paid-parking area at 7:30 a.m. and bring $5 or use Venmo to pay for your parking spot – please carpool if you can because there is a limited number of spaces. We’ll then take a Yancey Transportation van for the two-hour ride to the Mount Mitchell summit, so you’ll need another $10 per person for that ride. Space on the van is also limited to 12 people so sign up early.

The hike down to Bolen’s is a tough one, including rough footing, several sets of fixed ropes on sheer rock faces, a few steep climbs and very long, steep descents. The hike should take 8 to 10 hours. We can’t stress enough that you must know your fitness level and stamina before attempting this outing…
