‘It has to be fixed’: Swannanoa residents demand answers as flooding continues

SWANNANOA, N.C. (WLOS) — Residents in Swannanoa’s Beacon Village say ongoing flooding is exposing aging infrastructure problems – and they want to know which agency is responsible for fixing them.

After another round of heavy rain Monday, residents say storm drains got clogged, and stormwater backed up by flooding throughout the community of about 100 homes and many businesses. They say this is the fourth major flooding event in the community in the last six weeks.

Beacon Village business owner Stewart Cody says one of the biggest problem areas is near Park Street and North Street. He says the drainage system needs immediate attention…
