RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — Gas prices are up more than forty percent from a year ago, just as a record number of people are expected to hit the road.
AAA says nearly 45 million people will travel this Memorial Day Weekend, more than 1.3 million just in North Carolina.
CBS 17 is taking a closer look at current gas prices, according to AAA.
- Heading to Wilmington? The average for a gallon of regular sits at $4.27.
- In Asheville, it’s $4.26, and Charlottes looking at $4.21.
- Here in Raleigh, we’re seeing an average of $4.26.
- The national average is $4.55, a bit higher than North Carolina’s average of $4.23.
- Virginia sits at $4.43, and South Carolina at $4.16.
“While gas prices may or may not remain elevated for a good part of the summer, is really contingent on whether or not the Strait of Hormuz reopens. If it doesn’t, gas prices may continue trending upward through the course of the summer,” said petroleum analyst for Gas Buddy, Patrick De Haan…
