ATLANTA, GA — A fast-moving storm system swept across North Georgia on Wednesday, triggering severe thunderstorm warnings in several counties and leaving more areas under a broader thunderstorm watch. Forecasters also warned that the same stretch of weather was arriving while much of the state remained under heat alerts.
Residents in the warned areas were told to brace for heavy wind, pounding rain and possible power outages.
Active Warnings
The National Weather Service said part of Haralson County was under a severe thunderstorm warning until 6:15 p.m. A storm was reported near Buchanan around 5:35 p.m. and was moving west at 5 mph.
Another warning covering parts of Carroll, Douglas and Fulton counties was extended to 5:45 p.m. after previously set to expire at 5 p.m. Officials said that storm was last near South Fulton and also moving west at 5 mph.
