ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — Atlanta Public Schools (APS) is adding seven new community hubs to support its students and families.
As the district plans to close 11 underutilized schools to save about $20 million in operational costs, Peyton Forest Elementary School, Continental Colony Elementary School, Towns facility, F.L. Stanton Elementary School, Dunbar Elementary School, Perkerson Elementary School and Cleveland Avenue Elementary School will all turn into community hubs.
Dr. Chelsea Montgomery, the district’s senior advisor of operational efficiency, said the idea all started on a sticky note two years ago. APS leaders found a purpose for the old Oglethorpe Elementary School, and the first community hub offering clothes and food was born…
