Augusta street gets electronic signs after requesting speed humps, for now

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) – It’s what residents on Scotts Way want to see, and they are not alone. In fact, Augusta gets a lot of requests.“It’s a huge demand across the board, you know. Listen, folks want relief with some of the issues they are dealing with in their neighborhoods,” said Commissioner Don Clark.One of the issues on Scotts Way is speeding, so neighbors asked for the city to install speed humps. But asking doesn’t always mean receiving.

“Yes I get requests but there again too there are factors that play into speed humps you have to do the speed survey,” said Commissioner Catherine Smith Rice.

On Scotts Way, the survey found speeds are not high enough for the devices under city policy.However, commissioners are asking for a survey re-do on two different days of the week.“Because they did that on a Tuesday and a Wednesday, and if you think about it, most people are going to be off on the weekends and people are going to use that as a thoroughfare.”But some question whether a second study is proper under city policy.“If you do it for one, you got it do it for all , and that’s the way the citizens and residents, they’ll see it like that,” said Commissioner Rice.For now, Scotts Way will see the electronic flashing speed signs to tell motorists to slow down, instead of the speed humps that make them…
