Two local men sentenced to federal prison for mail theft

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – Two men have been sentenced to federal prison after pleading guilty to charges including mail theft.

Michael Thompson, 24, of North Augusta, South Carolina, was sentenced to 60 months in prison followed by three years of supervised release and fined $2,000 after pleading guilty to possession of a stolen mail key and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, said Margaret E. “Meg” Heap, U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Georgia.

U.S. District Court Judge J. Randal Hall previously sentenced Thompson’s co-defendant, Robert Plyler, 23, of Augusta, to a total of 38 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release, after he pled guilty to possession of stolen mail, bank fraud and aggravated identity theft…
