Man wanted in Georgia found in Oak Ridge dumpster

A man accused of trying to strangle a relative in Georgia is in the Anderson County jail after being caught in Oak Ridge on Mother’s Day.

Jose Isidro Morales Martinez, who is days shy of his 29th birthday, resisted arrest by Anderson County Sheriff’s Office deputies and fled. He was later caught in a dumpster by the deputies, an Oak Ridge police officer and his police dog, according to warrants filed in the county clerk’s office. An immigration detainer by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is currently pending against Martinez, the sheriff’s office posted on Facebook. The man, who has an Oak Ridge address, was also being tracked by the U.S. Marshals Service’s Smoky Mountain Fugitive Task Force.

He is reportedly wanted for aggravated assault in Grovetown, Georgia, a small town located about 10 miles from downtown Augusta. The sheriff’s office charged him with evading arrest, resisting arrest and being a fugitive from justice. As of May 11, he is being held without bond and his next court date is May 20.

Two county deputies were in the Main Street Oak Ridge shopping area around 4:26 p.m. May 10.. They’d received a report that the wanted man was in a gray Honda Civic with South Carolina registration and it had been seen in the area. According to the warrants, they found the car in the parking lot in front of the American Museum of Science and Energy. They used blue lights and stopped the vehicle and ordered, in English and Spanish, the two men inside to leave the vehicle, but they didn’t.
