Driver issued summons in deadly box truck crash in Wheat Ridge

DENVER (KDVR) — A driver was issued a summons following a deadly box truck crash that occurred in Wheat Ridge over the weekend, according to a social media post from the Wheat Ridge Police Department.

On Saturday, around 2:40 a.m., officers were dispatched to Interstate 70 near Kipling Street for reports of multiple vehicles crashing into a large box truck.

An initial police investigation found that the box truck driver allegedly fell asleep at the wheel while driving eastbound. The truck veered off the shoulder of the road before flipping over and coming to a rest on its side perpendicular to the highway, with the dark underside of the truck facing incoming traffic.
