WATCH – Colorado Rockies PA announcer steals the show with last-minute National Anthem at Coors Field

If you’ve been to a Rockies game at Coors Field, you know the voice… Reed Saunders has been the club’s in-stadium PA announcer for years — the guy who tells you who’s batting, who’s pitching, and to drive home safely. But earlier this month, when the scheduled National Anthem performer was a no-show, Saunders grabbed a microphone and showed 40,000 fans he can do a whole lot more than read lineups.

“Please rise and remove your caps as we honor America with the singing of our national anthem,” Saunders told the crowd, before adding with a beat, “as performed by me.” Then he delivered — a clean, powerful rendition that drew a roar from a crowd that probably didn’t know the PA guy had pipes.

The Rockies posted the clip to their social media channels, where it racked up thousands of views and a wave of local love. Former Rockies outfielder Ryan Spilborghs summed up the reaction: “This was awesome. Good job Reeeeeeeeeed.”…
