Aurora man faces $10K-$20K cost to avoid Xcel Energy smart meter

AURORA, Colo. — An Aurora man refusing Xcel Energy’s smart meter says opting out could cost him between $10,000 and $20,000.

More than 1.6 million Xcel customers have received either a smart meter that sends usage data directly to Xcel or a non-communicating meter that must be read in person.
