Investigation underway after fire destroys area around Aurora cemetery

DENVER (KDVR) — An investigation is underway after a fire sparked on Wednesday at Mt. Nebo Cemetery, leaving behind a charred field of grass in one area.

Aurora Fire Rescue responded to a fire that sparked at Mt. Nebo Cemetery on East 13th Avenue in Aurora on Wednesday. This is right by UCHealth University of Colorado. The fire department said the fire burned the top layer of grass, some sticks and pieces of wood.

Photos released by the department show a burnt field outside the cemetery fence, just a few feet from headstones. No headstones were damaged by the fire.
