A stabbing near West 10th Avenue and North Federal Boulevard sent one victim to a Denver hospital overnight, with police still working to identify a suspect as of early Saturday. The extent of the victim’s injuries remained unknown in the hours after the attack, according to authorities. Officers were called to the area, which sits along the border of Denver’s Sun Valley and Villa Park neighborhoods just west of Empower Field at Mile High.
The Denver Police Dept. announced the investigation in a post shortly after 1:43 a.m. Saturday, stating that officers were dispatched to the area of West 10th Avenue and North Federal Boulevard and that one victim was transported to a local hospital. Police said the extent of the injuries was not known at the time of the post, and that the investigation remained ongoing as officers worked to develop suspect information. No arrests had been announced as of the post.
The intersection sits along a stretch of Federal Boulevard that has drawn repeated attention from Denver Police in recent months. The corridor connects Sun Valley and Villa Park, a high-traffic, mixed-use area served by regional light rail and bus lines, according to Redfin. Sun Valley has long carried a heavier violent-crime burden than its neighbors. A 2018 public safety assessment by the Local Initiatives Support Corporation found the neighborhood’s overall crime rate of 143 incidents per 1,000 residents was roughly three times higher than Denver’s citywide average of 44 per 1,000 residents.
