DENVER (KDVR) — West Metro Fire Rescue investigators have determined that an explosion at a Lakewood townhome last month was accidental and ignited by a cigarette lighter combined with a natural gas leak.
In an update on Monday, WMFR said it has determined three possible sources for the natural gas leak, including a broken underground natural gas line outside the townhome, the home’s furnace and the home’s water heater.

The explosion occurred at a two-story townhome located at 17th Place near Robb Street on March 16, displaced a family and left one person with minor injuries. There were four people inside of the home at the time of the explosion.
