Jury finds man guilty in 2023 homicide

DENVER — A Denver jury found a man guilty on Friday in connection with the 2023 killing of a 34-year-old man found in the Lincoln Park neighborhood.

According to court documents, 36-year-old Stig Strong was found guilty of:

  • First-degree murder after deliberation
  • Second-degree murder
  • Aggravated robbery
  • Second-degree assault causing serious bodily injury
  • Second-degree burglary of a dwelling

Just before 7 a.m. on April 18, 2023, Denver Police officers responded to the 1200 block of Mariposa Street for a report of a person down. That’s near the intersection of West 13th Avenue and Mariposa Street.

When officers arrived, they found the body of Johnathan Douglas. He had facial fractures, a number of lacerations and other injuries consistent with blunt force trauma, the Denver Office of the Medical Examiner determined.
