‘She is a fighter:’ Cyclist seriously injured in Golden crash; driver being investigated for suspected DUI

GOLDEN, Colo. (KDVR) — A 35-year-old cyclist is recovering from serious injuries after she was struck by a car at an intersection in Golden, and police are investigating the driver for possible driving under the influence.

The crash happened the morning of March 25 at the intersection of U.S. 6 and Johnson Road, close to the Jefferson County Government Center, according to Golden police.

Investigators said traffic had stopped at the intersection after an incoming train signaled drivers to halt, but one driver sped through the left lane and ran a red light, striking a woman who was riding her bicycle in the crosswalk.

The cyclist, identified as Kristyn Wade, was taken to a hospital with severe injuries. Her mother, Betty Jean Wade, said her daughter suffered significant brain injuries and multiple broken bones and was placed on a respirator.
