Turns out, a popular Japanese retailer won’t be making its Central Texas debut this fall after all. Uniqlo appears to have delayed the opening of its $2.4 million store set for Austin’s last indoor mall.
The clothing brand is still planning to build its first Austin store at Barton Creek Square located at 2901 S. Capital of Texas Highway. However, the completion date of Uniqlo’s Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) filing has changed from this month to the second quarter of next year.
Initially, Uniqlo set plans for the store in October 2025, with construction expected to begin a few months later in February, according to its original permitting application for the location. The Austin store was estimated to be completed by September 4, but now that date has changed to April 30, 2027…
