‘Curveball:’ Lake Austin to lower 10 feet this fall, businesses say the notice came too late

AUSTIN (KXAN) — The plan to temporarily lower Lake Austin is not sitting well with lakeside business owners and employees, who say the real problem is not the maintenance itself but the timing, which they fear could pull business down along with the water level.

In an announcement released Aug. 20, the Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA) said the request was made by the city of Austin to lower the lake by about 10 feet between Mansfield Dam and Tom Miller Dam.

The drawdown is expected to last from Oct. 12 to Nov. 30…
