Cooling temperatures this afternoon, low rain chance

AUSTIN (KXAN) — A few strong storms continue to move through parts of the Hill Country this morning. A few storms may contain large hail and damaging winds.

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued for all of the Hill Country until 1PM.

Today

A strong cold front will sink northwest to southeast across Central Texas today, cooling temperatures in its wake. Those in the northwest are likely to get stuck in the 60s & 70s for most of the day while those further south and east will warm to the 80s.

Today’s storm chances will be tough to nail down, to say the least. The incoming cold front will attempt to trigger spotty storms in our area, but will be met with a strong “cap” in the atmosphere up above. This cap will work against storm development… however, there could be just enough lift with the front to allow for at least a few spotty storms.

Unsettled late week

A few spotty showers and storms are likely to return on Thursday. Temperatures will be much cooler by then with most of us stuck in the 60s & 70s.

A cutoff low over Southern California now looks to bring higher rain chances to Central Texas on Friday and Saturday…
