Spotty rain, storms today through Mother’s Day weekend

AUSTIN (KXAN) — This weekend won’t be a washout… but it won’t be completely dry either. Spotty showers and storms are likely at times with an increased severe threat late Sunday.

Today

We start the day with spotty showers and a few isolated storms working north through our area. We’ll hold onto these showers and storms through midday before hitting a lull this afternoon… and potentially seeing them return late tonight. Storms are not expected to be severe nor give way to any flooding issues. We expect a mainly to partly sunny sky through the day and overall, a warmer afternoon (highs: mid- to upper 70s).

Friday afternoon forecast high temperatures

Weekend weather

Widely scattered showers and storms are possible through early Saturday morning. Most of the daytime Saturday looks dry, with showers and storms favored to stay just to our south.

The following round of storms will come Sunday with an incoming cold front. There will be a low (1-2 out of 5) risk for severe storms late in the day on Mother’s Day with the greatest concern being hail.

Drier pattern and turning warmer

Drier weather returns Monday and should last through most of next week.

Temperatures climb through Sunday before being knocked down slightly after our cold front with a gradual warm-up next week…
