Strong to severe thunderstorms likely this evening

AUSTIN (KXAN) — The afternoon continues to be hot & humid with high temperatures climbing into the 90s.

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued for most of Central Texas through the late evening hours.

Storm timing will likely move into the Hill Country after 6 p.m., and track southeast towards the Austin area around sunset (8 p.m. – 9 p.m.).

Heavy rain will clear out of our eastern counties around midnight. Light rain with some thunder will likely continue after midnight.

The Storm Prediction Center has issued a Enhanced level 3/5 severe risk for most of Central Texas, north and east of Austin. The rest of the KXAN viewing area is in a Slight level 2/5 severe risk.

The primary threat is damaging winds, with winds up to 60-75 mph. Large hail, localized flooding, and an isolated tornado are also possible.
