Kern County supervisors approve new solar project, anticipates $44M in property taxes revenue in first year operational

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — The Kern County Board of Supervisors has approved a new solar energy project — greenlighting a venture that will generate millions of dollars in property taxes for the county.

The county supervisors approved the project in a 3-1 vote Tuesday, paving the way for the proposed project, called the “Discovery Solar PV and Storage Project” to break ground in southeastern Kern County.

The project will include building a 1,400 megawatt solar energy farm in an unincorporated area of Kern County, near Mojave. The project will also include an 8 gigawatt hour battery energy storage facility.
