A cool cause is blowing into Compassion Corner this Wednesday. KGET is teaming up with the Volunteer Center of Kern County for our annual fan drive. We have Executive Director Lori Honea with the Volunteer Center here to tell us more about the event.
The Volunteer Center is dedicated to helping seniors stay cool this summer and tomorrow you can help by dropping off any new or gently used fans at our Compassion Corner. It runs from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and volunteers are saying you can even stop by to make a cash donation as this helps make sure they have enough fans for every senior who needs it.
The Volunteer Center is accepting phone applications starting Wednesday, June 17th. You can call at 661-395-9787. Honea says that their lines will be very busy, so if you can’t get through, keep calling.
If you are in need of a fan and want to pick it up, the Volunteer Center is coordinating that this Friday behind the Bakersfield Elk Lodge off H & 30th Street between the hours of 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Honea stressed people should not come early to wait because there will be no parking available. Volunteers will there to guide people through the drive-thru style pickup…
