Resentencing denied for man convicted of Bakersfield police officer’s death

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — The man convicted in the 2015 death of Bakersfield police officer David Nelson will continue to serve a life term in prison, his petition for resentencing denied Wednesday after the court found the evidence clearly established he was the driver and acted with implied malice in the high-speed chase that resulted in Nelson’s death.

Julian Carlos Hernandez, 43, appeared agitated after the ruling by Judge John W. Lua. He repeatedly raised his hand and attempted to interrupt before asking to fire his attorney.
