BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — The Kern County Sheriff’s Office is asking the community to be wary of calls and text messages from scammers pretending to be KCSO employees.
According to officials, scammers are posing as KCSO personnel while demanding payment for fake warrants, missed jury duty or court issues. These demands are often for gift cards, Bitcoin or other electronic payments and they may threaten arrest.

Some scammers also send text messages asking for toll road or DMV fees, sheriff’s officials said.
As part of a new scam, scammers are also pretending to be KCSO employees over the phone. They reportedly tell people they have to pay for the ankle monitors for an incarcerated friend or family member upon their release…
