BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — While the South Valley had a generous serving of rain early Sunday morning, the “North Valley” experienced a bonafide TORNADO Sunday afternoon! The upper-level-low that has been spinning up all sorts of weather variety up and down the Golden State since late last week helped spin up a twister at the tail-end of our latest weekend.
Maritza Arreola, a northern California meteorologist, was in the right place at the right time to capture stunning footage more characteristic of Tornado Alley then California’s Central Valley. Yet, this event is not as rare as some might think. California has been home to hundreds of tornadoes since record-keeping began in the 20th Century and Sunday’s touchdown was just the latest addition.
The slow-moving low will affect our weather across Kern County for one more day – today – before finally moving off to greener pastures where it might ignite more severe weather and additional tornadoes across the nation’s midsection in the day(s) ahead…
