A brush fire blackened 665 acres on the north side of Elk Hills Saturday afternoon, sending smoke drifting over Taft for a time in the late afternoon.
The Brite Fire was reported at 2:09 p.m. about 1.5 miles southwest of the Buttonwillow Airport.
