Gov. Moore announces $17.6 million investment to create or preserve 555 affordable housing units

ANNAPOLIS, Md. — The Moore-Miller administration and the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development announced a $17.6 million state and federal funding investment this week to create or preserve 555 affordable housing units across seven counties and Baltimore City.

The funding allocation includes $9.6 million in federal Low Income Housing Tax Credits expected to leverage approximately $79 million in private tax credit equity, alongside state and federal rental housing program funds.

The investment builds on Governor Wes Moore’s September 2025 “Housing Starts Here” executive order, which directed state agencies to streamline and expedite the funding process for multifamily housing developments. Under updated rules established in the 2026 Qualified Allocation Plan’s “Housing Starts Now” criteria, projects competing for funding were required to have site plan approvals or proper zoning in place.
