Hazmat crews respond to LSU Lakes after oil, road tar spill into water

BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) – Hazmat crews responded to the LSU Lakes Monday afternoon after a substance spilled into the water.

According to the Baton Rouge Fire Department, firefighters believe the substance was oil and road tar.

Initial findings revealed the spill was potentially related to road work near the intersection of Ebony Street and Baywood Avenue. Investigators believe rain may have caused the substance to get into a drain system and flow into the lakes…
