Funeral services set for State Sen. Larry Selders

BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — Funeral arrangements are set for State Sen. Larry Selders, a legislator who died Tuesday, July 7, at the age of 44.

Selders was elected in February 2025 to serve as a Democratic senator representing Baton Rouge, replacing Cleo Fields. Fields wrote of their friendship and his faith in Selders as a leader. “Baton Rouge lost a champion, and I lost a brother in service,” he said.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 14, at Mt. Zion Baptist Church located at 356 T.J. Jemison Blvd. in Baton Rouge. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. The service will begin shortly afterwards.

Condolences poured in from state and local leaders, agencies and organizations after his death. Gov. Jeff Landry called Selders a “gentle giant.” Baton Rouge Mayor-President Sid Edwards remembered Selders as a “man of the people and a tremendous advocate” for the city…
