BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) – Ten years after a gunman ambushed and shot six Baton Rouge-area law enforcement officers, WAFB anchor Greg Meriwether is reflecting on what it was like to cover the attack as it unfolded live on air.
Three officers were killed in the July 17, 2016, attack on Airline Highway.
A fourth officer would later succumb to injuries from the attack.
Meriwether, who co-anchored the station’s breaking news coverage that Sunday morning alongside Lauren Westbrook, said his thoughts on the anniversary remain with the victims’ families.
“I woke up this morning and I just really can’t stop thinking about the families,” Meriwether said. “For those families, that day — this day, 10 years ago — it changed everything. And they’re still living with it right now.”…
