Since 2014, second- and third-year law students enrolled in the Parole and Re-entry Clinic at LSU’s Paul M. Hebert Law Center have represented incarcerated men and women before the state parole board.
The clinic provides free legal representation for men and women seeking freedom after serving at least 20 years in prison, and the students gain much-needed legal experience.
But crime legislation passed in 2024 cut early release opportunities for many who would have qualified for representation, and the clinic’s future is now uncertain…
