Dudy Noble Field was at its peak tonight as the Bulldogs looked to take the series from LSU. However, like yesterday, the Tigers struck early to get the crowd out of the game, but it did not last forever. State mounted a comeback, and usually it seems to be veterans delivering in crazy environments, but tonight it was a pair of freshmen who are actually roommates. Jacob Parker hit the grand slam to tie it, and southpaw Jack Bauer, who entered the game in the midst of chaos as the Tigers had all the momentum.
Still, the Illinois native showed poise beyond his years, something he may have picked up from his skipper as he tossed 3.2 innings, allowing one run and striking out eight batters, and kept the Tigers offense at bay before the Bulldog offense barked and came away with a 9-8 win.
“Coach Oak talks a lot about not being too high or too low a lot. Obviously, we expect the world from ourselves, and nobody has higher standards for us than we do,” Bauer said. “It has been a tremendous weekend so far, and we get a chance to finish it out tomorrow.”…
