Officials warn about high water, downed trees following overnight storms

BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) – Officials are warning about downed trees and high water on roadways following overnight storms that moved through the Baton Rouge area.

People in the following areas saw weather-related issues on Saturday, May 9:

LIVINGSTON PARISH

According to the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office, high water covered Eden Church Road at Prince Charles Street and by North Park.

Throughout Saturday morning, crews worked to clear downed trees along Tyler Ballard near Abe Linder, Highway 444 and Gum Swamp, Weiss and Sandhill, South Satsuma north of Perrilloux, and on Highway 442 east of Highway 43.

ASCENSION PARISH

Highway 431 just east of Highway 931 near CureMart is blocked off due to a downed tree. Drivers are being urged to use another route.

Weber City Road at Rip Duplessis was also temporarily closed early in the day on Saturday because of a downed tree. However, authorities said the roadway has reopened.

TANGIPAHOA PARISH

Deputies said high water was reported on Highway 1061 from Highway 440 to Highway 1057 in the Wilmer/Kentwood area. There was also high water on Highway 51 south of Kentwood Brick in Kentwood…
