A 20-year-old woman was shot Tuesday morning outside a supportive housing complex in Seattle’s Bitter Lake neighborhood, suffering non-life-threatening injuries during what police initially described as an altercation between her and a man. Seattle Fire Department personnel transported her to Harborview Medical Center after she was first treated at the scene, and investigators still do not know what led up to the shooting or whether the two people involved knew each other.
Seattle police officers and detectives responded to a report of violence at 924 North 143rd Street, according to FOX 13 Seattle. Preliminary reports left open whether the woman’s injuries stemmed from gunfire or a physical assault, but police later said the woman was injured by gunfire, per Seattle police. Detectives with the department’s Gun Violence Reduction Unit are continuing the investigation, according to the same report.
The address is home to The North Star, a 100-unit permanent supportive housing development for disabled adults who have experienced long-term homelessness. The $29 million facility, which offers 24/7 on-site staffing and support services, opened in July 2022 through a partnership between the Downtown Emergency Service Center and Bellwether Housing, according to Shoreline Area News.
Same Block Saw a Shooting in May
Tuesday’s shooting was not the first act of gun violence on this stretch of North 143rd Street this year. On May 9, 2026, Seattle police responded to a reported shooting in the same 900 block, where a 39-year-old man was shot in the arm and later interviewed by Gun Violence Reduction Unit detectives at Harborview Medical Center, according to the SPD Blotter.
