Off-duty security guard on trial in fatal shooting of teen in Renton

SEATTLE — An off-duty security guard accused of fatally shooting a teenager he mistakenly believed was armed is now on trial, facing murder and assault charges.

The defendant, Aaron Myers, is charged with the death of Hazrat Ali Rohani, 17. The shooting happened in June 2024 in the parking lot of a sporting goods store in Renton.

According to prosecutors, Rohani was with his cousin and a friend heading to a Big 5 Sporting Goods store to get help with their BB guns when Myers confronted them, believing they were about to commit an armed robbery…
