SEATTLE — A common, over-the-counter drug known as diphenhydramine, known better by the brand name Benadryl, is being abused more and more by young people.
Jimmy Leonard is a licensed pharmacist and chief clinical officer at the Washington Poison Center. He says the overdoses don’t appear to be about getting “high,” which, in recent years, has been popularized in the so-called “Benadryl Challenge” seen on TikTok.
