Birmingham hotel approved for near $10 million transformation into veterans housing

A former Birmingham hotel with 122 rooms was approved for a $9.2 million remodel permit this week in order to transform it into veterans housing.

The property — a Spark by Hilton Birmingham Colonnade just off US 280 and near The Summit — was purchased by the nonprofit Tunnel to Towers for $11 million last fall, according to ALdotcom. Upon purchasing, the goal was to make 110 rooms with “stable housing [and] onsite access to life-changing services” for veterans.
