Family honors daughter with memorial library at Garrett’s Place in Bessemer

BESSEMER, Ala. (WBRC) – A family found community with a nonprofit organization after adopting their daughter who lived with disabilities. Now, that family is working with the organization to honor their daughter and share her love of books.

The Lyle family adopted their daughter Esther from Florida, taking her into their family along with their adopted son, Amir, who is from Bulgaria and needed occupational therapy. Esther had survived a near fatal overdose in utero through her biological mother, which led to the little girl having brain and spinal injuries.

Hope Lyle said both of her children benefitted from Libby’s Friends, a nonprofit founded in 2020 in honor of Libby Hagan after the Hagan family “experienced firsthand the financial hardship that can come with caring for a loved one with a disability.”

Libby’s Friends didn’t just lessen the financial burden the Lyle family and other families of children with disabilities sometime grapple with, it gave them a community…
