Bessemer Police warn of fake FBI phone scam after 2 residents lose thousands

BESSEMER, Ala. (WBRC) – Bessemer Police are investigating two scams in which callers allegedly pretended to be FBI agents and convinced victims to withdraw thousands of dollars from their bank accounts.

Officers said the callers had victims’ bank numbers and asked them to withdraw money to help with an investigation. Police said victims did not get their money back.

Detective Jonathan Brady with the Bessemer Police Department said scammers tell victims their bank accounts are locked and instruct them to go to the bank in person to see if a teller will allow a withdrawal.

“If an FBI agent calls you, they’re not going to ask you for $25,000, so you definitely don’t want to hand over any money,” Brady said…
