17-year-old arrested in Pelham on murder warrant

PELHAM, Ala. ( WIAT ) — A 17-year-old who had an active warrant for murder out of Montgomery County was arrested in Pelham on Sunday.

According to the Pelham Police Department, an adult and eight juveniles arrived at the Church of the Highlands campus on Helena Road in two separate vehicles. A church volunteer was shuttling people from their vehicles to the building and saw one of the boys had a firearm in his waistband. The volunteer told him he could not have the weapon inside the church.

The boy exited the shuttle and put the firearm in a vehicle. The adult and the other seven juveniles got out of the shuttle. One of the juvenile females drove a vehicle containing the firearm and returned a few minutes later.

Pelham police officers made contact with the 17-year-old who had the firearm. The PPD stated he had an active warrant for murder out of Montgomery County. Pelham police officers took the 17-year-old into custody without incident. Pelham police officers discovered the firearm shortly later in bushes on the other side of the church’s property.
