Birmingham dentists recommend fluoride treatments after city ends water fluoridation

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – Dentists are encouraging residents to find alternative ways to prevent tooth decay now that Birmingham’s water no longer contains fluoride.

Tooth decay cases are 15% higher in children in Alabama cities that don’t put fluoride in their water, according to Dr. Stephen Mitchell with the Sparks Dental Clinic at UAB.
